I truly believe that engagement sessions are a vital part of the entire process. You'll have the chance to get to know me, experience how I shoot and I handle posing and lighting. This session will be a huge help on how the wedding day flows. I'll arrive on your wedding day already knowing how you two interact, what your best poses are and how to photograph you in a genuine way! What I will learn about your during your engagement session is invaluable. You will feel like such a pro on your big day because of the great practice you had during your engagement session! Your engagement sesh can be scheduled anytime before your wedding day. I normally suggest booking it at least 3-6 months in advance to avoid stress. However sometimes with destination weddings, I even do the session the day before the wedding. Because a lot of my weekends are filled with weddings, I like to shoot engagements on weekday evenings, normally from 5-7 pm depending on the light and the time of the year. In the winter months, 3-5 pm is a normal time frame. As you start to plan for your engagement shoot, you will need to start brainstorming about location ideas. I love it when couples pick a location that is special or sentimental to them in some way! If you can't think of anywhere specific, I can help you decide!

- Professional hair and makeup is always a good idea and helps you feel more confident! You can use this as a trial for your wedding makeup if you want!
- Be cautious of your tan lines, or if you need a spray tan, be sure to get the airbrushed custom kind where a professional sprays it on you instead of the booth kind. Definitely get it a few days prior so it has time to calm down or scrub off in spots that may be heavier. You don't want to look orange in your photos!
- Always bring a neutral blanket so that we can do some seated poses. Props that fit the environment such as a picnic basket may be cute too! We can plan this together!
- Restrooms for changing may not be available at our location, so be sure to have a plan to change in the car or bring blankets that we can hold up if needed.
- If you have a dog that you want in your photos, I love incorporating them! Or if there's a vintage car or a boat in the family, share your ideas with me!
- Be on time! You don't want to start off by being stressed, so allow extra time to arrive, and then we'll have plenty of golden sunlight before it sets.
- Clean the ring! I love to photograph a few close ring shots!
- Relax! I will guide you through the whole session and it's going to be a blast! Enjoy this time together and make a date out of it. Plan dinner afterwards and celebrate!

Devon's tips

view outfit inspo

- Don't try to match...try to pick outfits and accessories that coordinate or compliment instead.
- Don't be afraid to accessorize and make your outfits your own! Hats, jewelry, and fun shoes are always welcomed! Flower crowns or bouquets are perfect too.
- Avoid loud colors or patterns on your clothing, as those are distracting in photos. Logos or graphics are not favorable for portraits. If you decide to  wear something with a small pattern or florals, make sure it's not overwhelming. I don't recommend plaid for the guys. Usually plain is best for them.
- Empty your pockets! You don't want to have key chains or phones showing through.
- Stylish clothing is always the way to go! Most often, couples like to have one slightly causal outfit and then one outfit that is dressier. This will give you two different looks. I love when my couples do both dressy outfits too!
- Make sure you're comfortable in what you're wearing, and don't wait until last minute to decide on your outfit. Try it on a few times to make sure it is flattering.
- Some favorite online shops are Revolve, Asos, Lulus, Vici Dolls, Venus, Nordstrom, Dillards, and Rent The Runway. Order a few options and return what doesn't work!
